Triangle pillows have a long tradition in Thailand. Today, they come from the Isaan region of northeastern Thailand, symbolizing the Thai culture of “living on the ground”.
They are usually produced as a sideline by the families of rice farmers.
The cushions are made of superimposed rolls that are formed into a triangle and are sewn with a hammock.
The fabric is 100% cotton. The filling of the rolls is traditionally made of kapok (a natural fiber from the fruit of the kapok tree) which is wrapped around a core of rice straw which ensures that the pillow gets its shape even under constant one-sided load in which the kapok is not pressed to the sides.
Attention! Many suppliers in Europe sell triangular cushions and even advertise that the cushions are 100% filled with kapok. The reason for the offer is usually that most of the exporters or wholesalers sell cushions without rice straw, because the import regulations of the main importing countries, such as the USA or Australia, allow the importation of straw only under the elaborate conditions of the veterinary authorities fear the spread of cereal pests.
Since we order the production of the pillows directly, we have all of our triangular pillows filled in the traditional way with straw core and kapok.
